Role Profile:

Reporting to the Senior Translator based in our Montreal office, and part of the marketing and communications department, the main focus of the Translator role is to support all divisions and departments within the Arthritis Society through the accurate and timely translation of a wide range of external and internal materials, for a variety of audiences, from English to French language and vice versa.

The incumbent will further support communication initiatives by ensuring that concepts and subtleties of language/French culture are accurately reflected in marketing and communication materials. It is essential to maintain the content, context and style of the original material from one language to another throughout the various processes; in addition, the Translator will be responsible for proofreading his/her own work and the work of others.

  • Translate from English to French (and occasionally French to English) marketing and communications materials including internal email communications, advertising materials, newsletters, and website content, in a timely manner.
  • Translate from English to French (and occasionally from French to English) a variety of other documents originating from departments across the organization, including but not limited to reports, summaries, presentations, speeches and policies.
  • Ensure that the original content and context of the documents are preserved.
  • Proofread and edit new and existing content and/or revise as necessary.
  • Perform terminological research associated with translation function to ensure technical accuracy of complex health and policy topics.
  • Create and maintain glossaries and style guides for Arthritis Society communication in French.
  • Ensure quality control of finished documents/materials.
  • Provide sound advice to management and staff on how to effectively engage the translation process and work with translated material.


Required Skills & Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess a university degree or a diploma in English-French translation or an equivalent study with at least three (3) years of experience in English-French translation. He/she will have complete knowledge of the English and French languages with the ability to write professionally in each. He/she will have strong verbal communication skills in English and French and should be well aware of different styles of writing and principles of editing in both English and French. The highest level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality are a must. Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines is essential. Computer literacy is essential, as is an advanced level of proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products. Experience working with a translation memory tool and a workflow ticketing system is an asset. Naturally, bilingual (English and French) language skills are essential for this role.
