Thank you to those who joined us at our first ever Atlantic Canada Juvenile Arthritis Conference: Arthritis - It's A Family Thing! We hope you had a wonderful and meaningful experience, and we hope to see you again soon!
We are happy to offer three separate programs within the conference:
The program is organized by age groups, and each group will be supervised by a team which will include childcare professionals. All activities are designed to help children and pre-teens learn about themselves and others, overcome obstacles, gain new friendships and have fun!
This program is designed to help teens and young adults get ready to be in charge of managing their own health care, and transitioning from pediatric care. Much of the programming will be peer-led which provides attendees with the unique opportunity to educate themselves and others on rheumatic diseases. They will also be gaining the understanding and toolset necessary to be an advocate for both themselves as well as the cause. Experts in the field will also be brought in to present and facilitate discussion on topics specific to challenges as a young adult.
The parent program is designed to help parents learn as much as possible about childhood arthritis, caring for an affected child and the effects the disease can have on the whole family. With sessions being led by specialists and health professionals, the workshops will help answer many of the questions parents have about treatment, the role of the family, school issues, dealing with emotions, coping mechanisms and support opportunities.
The Arthritis Society provides leadership and funding for research, advocacy and solutions to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by arthritis.
