Our Mission

"The Mission of The Arthritis Society
is to search for the underlying causes
and subsequent cures for arthritis,
and to promote the best possible care and treatment
for people with arthritis."

The Arthritis Society in Prince Edward Island works to provide arthritis education and information, patient care and support, and funding for arthritis research in PEI. We work hard to improve the quality of life for the 24,000 Islanders with arthritis through initiatives such as the Arthritis Self-Management Program (ASMP) and the Lifestyle Makeover Challenge, by advocating for changes to our healthcare system and by providing people in need with a place to call through our toll-free Information Line (1.800.321.1433).

We help Canadians with Arthritis live better lives every day. There are nearly 4.5 million Canadians living with arthritis. Taking care of arthritis is everyone's business - sooner or later it will touch everyone.

The Arthritis Society funds research into the cause, and ultimately, a cure for the disease.  Past research has developed new drug therapies, early diagnosis procedures and surgical alternatives.

To date, no cure has been discovered. Canadian researchers are currently studying the molecular events that contribute to chronic inflammation. Isolating this trigger will hold the answers to a cure.
