Arthritis Friendly Products
Have you ever ached to find products that would make your life easier? Or products that are easy-to-open or designed to be comfortable and effective?
Our goal is to encourage manufacturers to design arthritis friendly products and packaging, and to provide them with an Arthritis Friendly logo so Canadians know these products will help them. In order to ensure products will be of benefit to consumers, companies must submit their product(s) for evaluation at an independent third-party research organization, and receive a passing grade.
The Program
The Arthritis Society is proud to be able to recognize manufacturers that have designed products that are easy to use for people living with arthritis. Listed below are the products that have received an independent and favourable review. The products have been commended by The Arthritis Society and deemed “Arthritis Friendly”. Organizations that wish to submit their product for consideration and review, should review the application process before contacting The Arthritis Society at arthritisfriendly@arthritis.ca.

The ACCU-CHEK Aviva blood glucose
monitoring system allows you to test right the first time. This easy to
use system provides results in 5 seconds. It requires only a tiny
drop of blood (0.6 ìL) and has unique safety features which are designed
to provide you accurate results to better manage your diabetes. The
ACCU-CHEK Aviva test strips are fast and easy to fill. The
strip is the largest on the market and comes in a flip-top container,
making strip handling easy, even for people with arthritis. The meter’s
ergonomic shape with rubber grips makes it easy to hold. The ACCU-CHEK
Aviva comes with the ACCU-CHEK Multiclix lancing device. It
uses a drum with 6 preloaded lancets, which means there are no lancets to
see or handle, making testing even easier.

The
ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus meter is the only meter with all-in-one
convenience. It offers automatic coding, no strip handling and easy
one-thumb testing, making it ideal for people on the go or for those who
want to test anytime, anywhere. The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus meter has a
built-in 17-test strip drum, and this design has received the Arthritis
Friendly designation. This unique preloaded 17-test strip drum means never
having to handle individual test strips again, which can be a challenge
for people with arthritis who test their blood glucose regularly. Its
integrated lancing device makes the meter easy to handle with fewer steps
involved in testing.
| Ascensia® BREEZE® Blood Glucose Monitoring System |
 The
Ascensia BREEZE meter from Bayer is the first blood glucose meter to earn
the Arthritis Friendly commendation from The Arthritis Society. The
Ascensia BREEZE meter makes testing easier for people with diabetes and
helps to encourage better testing compliance and diabetes management. It
uses a unique 10-test disc that eliminates the need to load, unload and
handle tiny test strips, which often can be a challenge for people with
arthritis who test their blood glucose regularly. The meter is
ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in your hand and is stable for
table top testing. There is also No Coding Required™ with the Ascensia
BREEZE system, which means fewer steps in the testing process, and also
helps ensure accurate and consistent readings. |
| Avamys™ Nasal Spray |

Avamys™, a nasal corticosteroid for the treatment of
seasonal outdoor as well as year-round indoor allergies, has received The
Arthritis Society’s Arthritis Friendly designation for its
device. The Avamys™ drug delivery device was designed and developed
with patients in mind. Avamys™ has a novel side-actuated “mist
release” button to make it easy to use. It delivers a gentle, scent and
taste-free mist with a low volume of spray, which means patients are less
likely to experience a bitter taste or the effects of drip down the back
of the throat. The device has a small nozzle designed to increase
comfort and fit more easily into the nose, and a viewing window allowing
patients to see how much medicine is left in the device. Avamys™ is
available only by prescription, so ask your doctor if it may be right for
you.

little effort. This original leak proof connection is easy to
use and eliminates the use of a wrench or other tools. Designed for all

| NASONEX®Nasal Spray |
 NASONEX was the first nasal corticosteroid for
use in allergies to receive The Arthritis Society’s Arthritis Friendly
designation for its device. The device is very simple for people with
arthritis to open, close and spray. With over 9 million patient-years of
experience, NASONEX has become the #1 prescribed nasal corticosteroid in
Canada. It provides relief from the annoying and painful symptoms of
seasonal and year-round allergies, like congestion, sneezing and runny
nose. It is also approved for the treatment of acute sinusitis (as an
adjunct to antibiotics) as well as for nasal polyps. NASONEX is available
only by prescription, so ask your doctor if it may be right for
