The Arthritis Society gives this award to individuals who have now become established investigators, with a strong track record in obtaining independent operating grants from granting agencies. These individuals are now responsible for supervising PhD students (research fellows) in addition to conducting their own independent research in academic centres throughout Canada and have developed a reputation for excellence in research.
Candidates are proposed by the institution Applications are fully reviewed by the Society's Scientific Review Panel which then makes funding recommendations to the Society's Scientific Advisory Committee.
Investigators have an academic appointment in faculties of Canadian universities or affiliated institutions. The Society provides a contribution toward salary of $70,000 per annum, plus applicable fringe benefits which allows the individual protected time (at least 75%) to dedicate to his/her research activities. The award is granted for a period of five years.
This award is funded to encourage excellence in arthritis research, scientific discoveries, breakthrough research, and contributions to the body of knowledge about arthritis.
This award helps to keep the best researchers in the field of arthritis and focused on arthritis research, leading to more discoveries.
