Advocacy

Special Events, Fundraising & Revenue Development

Volunteer LogoAdvocacy volunteers are the voice for those living with arthritis across the country and help us to create awareness at a local and national level. Volunteers do this by promoting new initiatives from the Arthritis Society in their communities and letting us know what needs to be addressed.

This role may involve campaigning around federal or provincial elections, letter writing, working with local elected officials, and other forms of advocacy.

About the role

An advocacy role within the Arthritis Society can be tailored to an individual's passions, experience, and availability, so no one role looks the same!  Whether you're interested in campaigning to help improve arthritis care in your local community, or want to support our national mission campaigns, there are many ways our advocacy volunteers can join us to help make life better for people affected by arthritis.

  • Use a variety of online methods to reach politicians, healthcare professionals or the wider public
  • Attend public events to advocate for people affected by arthritis
  • Join local or national patient groups

Availability

We have advocacy roles available across Canada, at both a local and national level.

At the Arthritis Society, we do our best to offer flexible roles that can be adapted to suit the needs and availability of individual volunteers.  The exact time commitment of all positions will depend on many factors including the volunteer position being filled, your schedule, and the Arthritis Society’s current initiatives. Opportunities to volunteer are deigned to fit around other commitments an individual may have. For example, you can volunteer by sharing social media messages during election campaigns, or you can help us on an ongoing basis leading a local advocacy campaign. We do ask our volunteers to commit to a term or season of work with us to enable them to see projects to completion and for all parties to see the full benefit of this volunteer partnership.
