What is CPSIA?

Arthritis Society Canada is committed to supporting healthcare professionals in the most up-to-date arthritis identification, care, and management best practices.

Clinical Practice Skills for Inflammatory Arthritis (CPSIA) is a professional development program that has evolved with the evidence and the learning needs of today’s interdisciplinary team. The program progressively develops the participants’ clinical practice skills over a 5-day period through a blend of online, didactic, interactive and experiential learning on the most prevalent arthritis conditions. Participants who complete all program requirements receive a Certificate of Program Completion issued by Arthritis Society Canada.

CPSIA is suitable for the following health care professionals:  Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Chiropractors, and Nurse Practitioners.  It will support the learning of those who provide client-centred healthcare to people with arthritis across a continuum of settings and stages of disease. (The program does not address childhood arthritis).

Many of the program’s graduates  go on to successfully complete the Advanced Clinician Practitioner in Arthritis Care (ACPAC) program.

Testimonials I think this course has helped me to consolidate my thoughts to make a good summary of the findings. I will be able to think through all possible differentials in a more organized fashion. There were some new ways to assess various joints that I plan to change my practice.

I plan to pay much closer attention to multiple joint complaints, and lead assessment into questions related to inflammatory arthritis. Teaching our clinical staff regarding red flags to look for when assessing patients for what appears to be soft tissue injuries or simple OA.

This course has definitely opened my eyes to another area of conditions and their management. Often times I review referrals for very complex conditions, which include arthritis, and I didn't really know much about the condition. Now I have a better idea of what type of management would be most appropriate for them. (2) I am planning on applying to the ACPAC program, so feel this course is extremely relevant to that continued training.
